Nikon FB-14 Compartment Case
Introduction
A friend of mine recently gifted me an ultra-rare Nikon FB-14 leather camera bag from around 1970. Judging by its appearance, it was most likely never used.
I thought it would be interesting to take a closer look at the bag and see how camera bag design changed over the decades.

Specifications
Dimensions (WxHxD) 280mmx230mmx110mm
Weight: ~0.9 kg
Material: Cowhide Leather
Color: Black
Design
The Nikon FB-14 has a rectangular shape and comes with a non-detachable shoulder strap.
On the front is a small compartment suitable for papers, filters or a small light meter.
The main compartment features a lockable (!), high quality zipper.
Its interior is lined in dark wine-red fabric and divided by three Velcro-fixed pads of the same color.
What makes this case so special is its rigid shape. This allows for convenient access to the equipment.
The flexible design of most contemporary camera bags is more comfortable to carry, but sometimes equipment can get “stuck” inside the bag.
Also, small lenses tumble around in cases like the FB-14.
Conclusion
The Nikon FB-14 is a very nice case for a Nikon F3 with winder, a flash and a lens. Even a Hasselblad body fits quite nicely - probably because it is also rectangular.
It surely is an eye catcher and thanks to its sturdy cowhide leather, it will last.
